Anyone who knows me, will know I am not what you would call a religious person. Those people would at first be surprised to know that I am a regular subscriber to the Catholic Insider. However before you decide to gloss over this review, as not being of interest to you, let me tell you a bit more about this Podcast and why I listen to it.

Father Roderick Vonh�gen is a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Utrecht, The Netherlands. He was at the Vatican when Pope John Paul II fell ill and subsequently passed away and was also there when Pope Benedict XVI was named as the new Pope and all of this was podcasted.

Father Roderick is an expert at sound seeing tours, which is like taking a tour of a place with your ears. So far we have toured the Vatican, Rome and Dublin to name a few. We’ve also heard Father Roderick scour the streets of his home town Amersfoort, for a copy of the movie, the Excorcist, for analysis. All of this is done with incredible clarity and with a style that is unique to Father Roderick.

I’ve listened to this podcast for something like 6 months and it’s always informative, interesting and sometimes thought provoking. No I won’t be suddenly jumping on the Catholic bandwagon, but that’s not what this is all about. It’s about listening to someone elses perspective on things, but with the unusual slat, that the person in question is a priest.

Something that is also very surprising is that Father Roderick is a big Star Wars and Harry Potter fan and he sometimes dedicates some podcasts, to these two subjects.

Conclusion : The Catholic Insider isn’t your usual podcast, but it’s definitely one you should listen to a couple of times, before making your mind up. So far we have been part of history in the making. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
